Salvia officinalis

Sage is commonly known as a culinary herb, but it also has a long history of medicinal and ceremonial uses. Sage is loaded with Vitamin K, magnesium, zinc, and copper, plus antioxidant Vitamins A, C, and E in smaller amounts, so it’s no surprise it’s often included in the top 10 most powerful herbs.

Sage boasts more than 160 antioxidant polyphenols, in addition to several types of acidic compounds that also act as antioxidants: chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, ellagic acid, and rutin.
Sage also contains naturally occurring caffeic acid, making it a popular ingredient in DIY face masks.(Check out our skin care page here.)

Sage is also popularly used for smudging practices. Read more about that here.
