Pau d’Arco, also known as the pink trumpet tree, is used for its inner bark, referred to as “taheebo” or “lapacho.” The bark has been employed for thousands of years in the traditional healing practices of the native tribes throughout the Americas. Pau d’arco bark can be tinctured or extracted, incorporated into topical skin care regimes, or decocted as pau d’arco tea. The bark is bitter-tasting, so blend with other botanicals to enhance the tea flavor. (Long-term use of the tea is not recommended.) For skin care and cosmetics, the bark is made into a decoction for use in poultices, salves, creams and other topical formulations.
