Iris germanica

Orris root is obtained from a cultivar of iris often called Fleur-de-lis and can take up to five years to dry and age properly, after which the material smells like violet flowers. Orris root has a long history of use in perfumery. Typical preparations of the fragrant roots include herbal sachets and potpourris. Additionally, orris root can be tinctured or used to flavor syrups. Ground orris powder is also used in dry body powders, facial masks, and gentle exfoliants for its smooth texture.
