Black, organic, Nigella sativa

Black seed is the common name for the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant. Also known as black cumin, or black cumin seed, the seeds are pressed for black seed oil. Their flavor profile is savory, pungent, and slightly bitter to taste.
Black cumin seed has been celebrated for centuries for its medicinal and culinary applications and is especially popular in Middle Eastern, Indian, and North African cuisines. Best known for enhancing flavor and supporting digestion, the seeds can be added to dishes such as breads, curries, and sauces.

Black cumin seed has active compounds that help boost the immune system, fight cancer, and lessen hay fever’s allergic reactions by acting as an antihistamine. Black seed improves COPD, asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and hyperlipidemia. Black seed can also be incorporated into a gel to treat acne and mastalgia (breast pain).
Black Seed’s active compounds are Thymoquinone, Thymohydroquinone, Nigellone, Alpha-hederin, Alkaloids, and Flavonoids.
Though Black Seed is commonly consumed in foods, some people may have side effects such as allergic rashes. Consuming amounts greater than those found in food is possibly unsafe for pregnant women as it can act as an abortive or stop uterine contractions. Likewise, Black Seed may make it difficult to achieve pregnancy, though it’s not a reliable form of birth control. Additionally, Black Seed slows blood clotting so may exacerbate bleeding disorders or interfere with medications and surgical procedures. Black Seed’s ability to lower blood pressure may complicate high blood pressure treatments. Black Seed also increases serotonin, so may negatively affect those using serotonin medications, such as SSRI’s and SNRI’s.
It is strongly advised to consult a medical professional before incorporating Black Seed into your healthcare regimen.
