Angelica archangelica

With names like Root of the Holy Ghost and the Angel of Herbs, it is quite apparent Angelica has been a cherished herb for centuries. More commonly known as wild celery, Norwegian angelica, and Garden angelica, Angelica archangelica has a place in both the kitchen and the medicine cabinet.
Angelica has a long history of use in traditional herbal practices and has been valued for centuries in cultures around the world. Its distinctive aroma and rich botanical profile have made it a popular ingredient in a variety of traditional herbal preparations.

This sweetly-scented herb imparts a spicy, bitter, and warming energetic, leaning toward the sweetness of carrot with a flavor similar to licorice. It is a wonderful addition to cakes, muffins, breads, and cookies. It is also used to flavor liquors, such as gin and Vermouth.
Angelica is used to create flavorful seasonings and spice blends, pairing well with meats, poultry, soups, and vegetables.
Angelica root’s warming taste makes it a favorite for herbal teas and blends. To prepare, steep 1 – 2 teaspoons of Angelica root in hot water for 10 minutes. Try pairing it with other herbs, such as Peppermint and Chamomile, or Mugwort and Feverfew. Angelica pairs well with numerous herbs, but can stand alone equally well.
