Most people are well acquainted with the flesh and juice of this popular fruit. The dried peel, however, is even more versatile and has a longer shelf life. It is used to make a variety of spa and cosmetic products, such as scrubs and herbal bath bags.

Orange peels offer a variety of health benefits due to their rich content of Vitamin C, fiber, and polyphenols. There are substantially more enzymes, flavonoids, and phyto-nutrients in the peel of the orange rather than the fruit. The peel is where all the essential components accumulate and they may be found in three main sections of the peel; the flavedo, albedo, and oil sacs.

Orange peel is also used in cooking and in baking. The dried and chopped peel adds flavor to chutneys, mulled wine, cakes, cookies and confections. The peel is also an excellent addition to tea blends. Mildly sweet and tangy, it can be paired with green tea, black tea, rose hips, chamomile, goji berry, elder berry, cloves, and cinnamon.
