Ginger root powder
As one of the most beloved Autumn and Christmas baking and tea spices, ginger is one that should be fresh. The difference really shows!

Ginger root, dried and cut:
Woody and fibrous with a spicy-sweet fragrance, the dried, chopped root lends a warm, pungent flavor to soups, stews and tea blends. The organic dried ginger root can also be infused in oil or tincture for use in topical salves, balms, ointments and liniments.

Gingerol, the main compound in ginger with health benefits, acts as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Gingerol improves digestion and gastrointestinal motility. As a result, ginger is commonly used to alleviate nausea.

Ginger helps chemotherapy patients with post-treatment nausea, and without the side effects of anti-nausea medications. Pregnant women have long relied on ginger to quell morning sickness. Even the American Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology mentions ginger as an acceptable non-pharmaceutical remedy for nausea and vomiting. Eating ginger can also cut down on fermentation, constipation, and other causes of bloating and intestinal gas.

Ginger adds a fragrant zest to both sweet and savory foods. The pleasantly spicy “kick” from the root of Zingiber officinale, the ginger plant, is what makes ginger ale, ginger tea, candies and many Asian dishes so appealing. Ginger tea is fantastic in cold months, and delicious after dinner. You can add a little lemon or lime, and a small amount of honey and make a great beverage.
